FOOD: Very Important

It's not our recommendation to use grain feeds or wheat for this style of hen due to the fact that they lay an egg every day meaning that they need the highest quality pelletized feed.

Recommended Food

We recommend strongly the use of "Golden Yolk" Layer Pellet above and beyond all other

Predator Protection

If foxes, cats, or dogs are a problem we suggest using an electric barrier.
A single white tape works well as its visual as well, placed approximately 200mm above the ground on a 200mm-300mm standoff works well.

Recommended Food

ISA stands for - "Institut de Selection Animale"-
the name of the company which developed the hybrid breed in 1978 for optimum egg production.
Biada Poultry have the aussie rights to market the name "ISA Brown"

Best types of Feeders

There are many different styles of feeders for your hens from easy to make at home to complex purchasable designes.
There are two important things to remember when choosing a feeder for your home flock.

  1. that you have adequate room for the number of hens that you have to be able to all feed, if you have ten or more hens two feeders are recommended.

  2. that you want to keep feral birds out of the feed to avoid excess food expence but more importantly to avoid parasites and disease being transmitted to your flock.
